In some countries girls receive half the education of boys, even though educating a mother educates her whole family.

Education is life saving. If a mother is educated for 4 years, her child is 20% more likely to reach the age of 5.

In the emerging world order, education and technology training are the most important factors in improving living standards.

J is for JUBILEE 2000

Join Jubilee 2000! Campaign to cancel third world debt for the Millennium.

K is for KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge is the key.

L is for LITERACY

A quarter of the adult population worldwide cannot read or write.

It would cost an extra $8 billion a year to send all children to school - the same as 4 days' global military spending.

Counting is a basic skill.

Education gives people the chance to escape poverty. It improves economic productivity.

People without a basic education are more likely to be poor.

Children in remote areas often have to work to support their families. Because of this they are much less likely to complete school.

S is for SCHOOL

125 million children never go to school - two thirds of these are girls.

T is for TEACHERS

Classes can have two hundred children, meaning it takes half an hour for the teacher just to return exercise books.

Education nourishes democracy. It gives people the power to improve their communities and to protect their rights.

Children often have to walk for two hours to get to school.
